Dear Friend,
Why do we put things off and not take the action we know we should? We all do it, but why?
Apologies for the short psychology lesson but, 'Procrastination is a type of avoidance behaviour which is characterised by deferment of actions or tasks to a later time.
'Psychologists often cite procrastination as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision.'
'For the person procrastinating this may result in stress, a sense of guilt, the loss of personal productivity, the creation of crisis and the chagrin of others for not fulfilling one's responsibilities or commitments.'

'While it is normal for individuals to procrastinate to some degree, it becomes a problem when it impedes normal functioning. Chronic procrastination may be a sign of an underlying psychological or physiological disorder.' Wikipedia
I was guilty of the 'p word' writing this newsletter. That niggling, irritating little voice reminding me, 'It's not going away buster - you gonna have to do it sooner or later.'
There is always 'that to-do list', a mile long - that important job, the marketing plan, the VAT return, the company make over, the exercise routine, the health kick, the new project.
Five years ago Ka-Ching! started. Various schools and families are making great progress, but I know for many schools and families, those five years have bought no meaningful changes to the way their learners and kids are developing vital business, financial awareness and life skills.
The reality is that children will definitely need these skills. Time marches on, faster and faster it seems. 'Scary fast' sometimes, I mean it's almost Christmas again! But through procrastination the window of opportunity can be lost forever.
But it's like that great title of the book written by Bill Hogan, 'How Do You Eat An Elephant? One Bite at a Time!'
So I guess the moral has to be something like 'take small steps, but take them.'
Take one small but vital step now.
Here endeth the lesson. Catch up soon....

What's on the Ka-Ching! Radar?
We are delighted to announce that Western Province Prep School in Cape Town has decided to expand the Ka-Ching! School's Programme to more grades. We look forward to working with WPPS and their community in 2008 and beyond.
We are also excited to welcome Pridwin Preparatory School in Johannesburg to the Ka-Ching! School's Programme. We will be running the on-site train-the-trainer session next month.
We are hard at work developing a new course for teenage children and adults. This programme will add the logical step from the Business Parenting, adding more skills and practical training for teenagers and adults. It will be ideal for developing the skills required to launch a real-life business and for becoming an intra-preneur. The Ka-Ching! Entrepreneurship and Leadership course will also add the backbone to the Hout Bay Project, where we will assist a group of people learn self-reliance.
In February next year, We will be holding a training session for all South African Economics and Management Sciences (EMS) teachers . The workshop will be held at Bergvliet High School and aims to help teachers enhance their teaching of this vital subject. We want it to come alive in the classroom!
Even though he will be retiring from Bishops after 11 years as headmaster, we look forward to having Midge Hilton-Green involved in the business side of things at Ka-Ching!. His wife said he is too energetic to retire, and is very supportive of 'keeping him busy'. His invaluable experience will be extremely beneficial to the team.
There is so much more happening, but more on that next time!
