"It is always a pleasure to find out about exciting new ideas on how to educate the youth of today.
It is essential to teach children life skills and financial management, as these are imperative to becoming an entrepreneur, and especially in South Africa today with our high unemployment rate. What a wonderful concept which will not only be invaluable to children but to their parents as well!
My best wishes to the Business Parenting Institute in the launch of "Ka-Ching". May it be a huge success."

"The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2005 (GEM Study) ranked South Africa 36th out of 40 countries in terms of entrepreneurial activity, last amongst participating developing countries. Successful entrepreneurship leads to job creation which may be the only way of generating an income for most South Africans as 40% of our current population remains unemployed.
Realising the need for formally teaching entrepreneurship, the Department of Education entrepreneurship as a model in the Economics, Management and Sciences learning area. Despite this, there is much evidence to suggest problems in the introduction of entrepreneurship as most schools do not have teachers who are able to teach the subject at school. Whilst the Shuttleworth Foundation supports the implementation of the subject at school level, we sought alternatives for introducing and supporting the subject, which motivated us to support the development and pilot of the Business Parenting Program. The program uniquely combines entrepreneurship curriculum principles with parental skill of parents as well.
The program also creates a stronger bond between parent and child. It holds the potential for parents to be actively involved in their child's schoolwork which reverses the current trend that sees parents separated from their child's schoolwork with the introduction of a new curriculum that parents are often unfamiliar with.
The Shuttleworth Foundation is pleased with the deliverables of the project to date and hopes to see it utilized amongst more parents."
